In my later years, I’ve become a bit of a Paddock to Plate person. It was mainly when I was pregnant that I really started taking notice of what I was putting in my mouth. And I found that I was spending more money on what I put ON my body, rather than what I put INTO my body. It just doesn’t make sense.
As a result, I now try to buy as local as possible. It drives me mental that you go to the supermarket and you have no idea how long the bread has been sitting there, or if the oranges are 6 months old or only 1 month. I can’t stand the thought of buying grain from overseas when I know the farmers work so hard here to produce some great crops. And now with the drought, we should be supporting Aussie farmers more than ever.
With this in mind, I use lupins from Lupins For Life:
- Yes, I know the owner, but this also means that I know where the lupins are coming from. I can go for a drive down the road and actually have a look in his paddock to know EXACTLY where they’re coming from! 100% Australian grown!
- They use Sweet White Lupins (Albus). It isn’t bitter, but has a bit of a nutty taste to it.
- The protein and fibre content is amazing.
- These guys are the only company producing these lupins outside of Europe – they have finally reached our shores, but they’re grown in our beautiful Australian backyard!
With this in mind, for me, there really is no other choice.
